OUR TECHNOLOGY

Our planned technology platform

BATRECY is developing an integrated battery recycling platform designed to cover the complete journey from collection and assessment through recycling and material recovery.

OUR CIRCULAR APPROACH

Five steps to close the loop

The steps below describe the planned BATRECY process. Final technology selection and design are being evaluated with international partners.

  1. STEP 01

    Collect

The planned collection network will receive end-of-life batteries from multiple sources, including vehicle fleets, dealers, energy-storage operators, manufacturers and electronics recyclers.

    • Safe packaging and transport
    • Traceable intake records for every batch
  2. STEP 02

    Assess

Batteries will be assessed to determine their state of health and suitability. Reuse or repurposing would follow only after appropriate safety and suitability assessments, not on remaining capacity alone. Batteries that do not qualify would be directed to recycling.

    • Safety, suitability and capacity testing
    • Sorting by chemistry and condition
  3. STEP 03

    Recycle

End-of-life batteries will be safely discharged and dismantled, then processed using mechanical techniques that separate their components and produce black mass.

    • Controlled discharge and dismantling
    • Fire-safe handling and storage
  4. STEP 04

    Recover

The project aims to recover valuable materials such as lithium, nickel, cobalt, manganese and copper, so they can re-enter the supply chain.

    • High-value material streams
    • Responsible management of residues
  5. STEP 05

    Regenerate

Recovered materials are intended to return to new batteries and products, supporting a circular battery economy and reducing dependence on newly mined resources.

    • Materials returned to industry
    • Lower environmental footprint

TARGET MATERIALS

Critical materials we aim to recover

Li

Lithium

The core of lithium-ion cells

Ni

Nickel

Energy density in cathodes

Co

Cobalt

Stability in cathodes

Mn

Manganese

Low-cost cathode chemistries

Cu

BATTERY CHEMISTRIES

Designed for evolving battery chemistries

BATRECY is evaluating recycling technologies suitable for major lithium-ion battery chemistries, including LFP and NMC/NCM, with the flexibility to adapt as Pakistan’s battery market develops.

LFP

Lithium Iron Phosphate

Widely used in stationary energy storage and increasingly in electric vehicles. Recovery focuses on lithium and the iron phosphate cathode material.

NMC / NCM

Nickel Manganese Cobalt

Common in many electric vehicles for its energy density. Recovery focuses on nickel, cobalt, manganese and lithium.

TARGET BATTERY STREAMS

Designed for the batteries
Pakistan uses

The platform is being designed around the battery types expected to grow fastest across the country.

  • Electric vehicle packs

    Cars, buses and commercial fleets

  • Two- and three-wheeler batteries

    Electric bikes, scooters and rickshaws

  • Energy storage systems

    Solar, backup and telecom storage

  • Production scrap and consumer cells

    Manufacturing rejects and electronics batteries

Safety & quality by design

  • Trained teams and documented procedures
  • Safe discharge before any dismantling
  • Fire detection and suppression throughout
  • Emission and effluent controls
  • Full traceability from intake to output
  • Alignment with international best practice
